Miller: Leave Sun City as it is now

Posted

I will be voting “no” on Sun City Home Owners Association’s proposed “revisions” to the covenants, conditions and restrictions.

I moved to Sun City 11 years ago for several reasons — low cost, quiet clean neighborhoods and you had the independence of living in an area without a city government. Houses are painted a variety of colors and in some interesting, original ways. Yards vary from a few lawns to very unique designs to painted rock. Driveways are painted, finished in brick, have acrylic patterns applied, while many, like mine, are the original cement. Many homes have the original siding and some are block, while others now have a completely modern stucco exterior. People fly U.S. flags, Marine Corps flags, Jewish flags and even Confederate flags. There are Christian signs in yards at Easter and Christmas.

I say vote “no” and leave Sun City the way it is. After reading the proposed “clarifications,” we should be removing a rule or two, not trying to add in more. If you like rules and cookie cutter bland subdivisions and a lot of control, move to Sun City Grand or any neighborhood in northern Peoria and leave us alone.
