Marinette pool deck to be replaced in Sun City

Work scheduled for mid-November

Posted

Recreation Centers of Sun City officials will close the Marinette Recreation Center pool, 9860 W. Union Hills Drive, in mid-November for deck and equipment replacement.

The project will include replacement of the existing pool deck with a rubber decking material throughout the pool, spa and shower areas, according to Chris Herring, RCSC assistant general manager. In addition, filters for the pool and spa will be replaced.

To accommodate the work, the pool and spa will be closed beginning Monday, Nov. 11 and remained closed through Thursday, Nov. 27. The work is expected to be completed in time for a reopening in time for the Thanksgiving weekend, according to Mr. Herring. The work period was chosen based on historic usage of the facility, he added.

“With night time temperatures going into the low-50s, this is the latest in the year that this work can be scheduled as lower temperatures affect the curing of the surface,” Mr. Herring stated in a report to the RCSC board.

The work schedule was reviewed with Aqua Fitness Club leadership to allow the group to adjust its schedule, Mr. Herring stated.

The contractor for the project will be Rubaroc USA and the deck replacement will cost $125,328.

Cartridge filters for the pool and spa will be replaced by deep bed sand filters with glass media, according to Mr. Herring.

“The replacement filters will provide more granular filtering and allow for backwashing of filters rather than manual cartridge cleaning,” Mr. Herring stated.

The filter replacement work will be conducted during the same period as the deck replacement, he added.

The contractors for the filter project will be Exceptional Water Systems and Osiris Pools. The cost for the pool filter replacement will be $31,261 and the cost for the spa filter replacement will be $20,600.
