Local Western music entertainer Dan McCorison introduces his new album, Me & Les, at a CD release party 2-4 p.m. Sunday, April 18 at Copper Penny, 10765 W. Peoria Ave.

The album was recorded in honor of Mr. McCorison’s writing partner, cowboy poet Les Buffram, who is scheduled to be inducted in the Western Music Hall of Fame this coming fall. Mr. Buffram was collaborator on three of the songs on the album, which includes Mr. McCorison’s most recent single release, “Welcome to Wickenburg”. This song was recently nominated as Best Western Song of the Year by the International Western Music Association.

The album was recorded in the Phoenix area and Nashville where Mr. McCorison’s producer, Scott Neubert, has worked and recorded for many years. Mr. Neubert plays guitar for Crystal Gayle in addition to being a session musician and producer.

Mr. McCorison is hoping this new CD will share some of the same success as his last album, “Montana Moon,” which was named 2017 Western Album of the Year by the Academy of Western Artists.

In his early years, Mr. McCorison cut his teeth on the folk scene in his hometown of Denver. Shortly after college, he and a couple friends formed their first band, Dusty Drapes and the Dusters. They were soon touring, headlining packed shows and opening for the likes of Merle Haggard, Willie Nelson, Flatt & Scruggs and Linda Ronstadt.

Along the way, Mr. McCorison was discovered by Chris Hillman of The Byrds and Flying Burrito Brothers. Mr. Hillman was instrumental in getting Mr. McCorison signed to MCA Records of Los Angeles. His first album featured Emmylou Harris’ Hot Band. Mr. McCorison’s trail finally led him to Nashville where he spent 20 years writing and recording with some of the best songwriters and musicians in country music.

Mr. McCorison has played all around the United States as well as overseas venues, including Japan, Australia and Europe. He is currently residing in Sun City with his wife, June, and their dog, Daisy.
