Four Vietnam War-era veterans from the Sun City Wood Carving Club were presented 50th anniversary commemoration lapel pins and brochures, explaining the meaning of the symbols on the pin, by honorary chapter regent Shirley Staggs, of the Sun City Agua Fria National Society Daughters of the American Revolution Chapter.

The veterans are Fred Graham, U.S. Navy; Mark J. Thill, U.S. Air Force; Rick Browning, U.S. Air Force; and James Kelleher, Illinois Air National Guard.

The Sun City Agua Fria National Society Daughters of the American Revolution Chapter became a commemorative partner with the U.S. Department of Defense to recognize, honor and thank all U.S. military veterans who served between Nov. 1, 1955, through April 15, 1975, regardless of location.

A special surviving spouse lapel pin and brochure of a Vietnam veteran may also be given.

In 2008, the National Defense Authorization Act gave the Secretary of Defense the power to conduct a program to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War. This program will continue through Veterans Day 2025. Any organization may join the Commemoration Partners Program by visiting VietnamWar50th.com.

March 29 became a National Vietnam War Veteran when President Donald Trump signed the Vietnam War Veterans Day Act March 28, 2017. More than 58,000 Veterans gave their lives serving their country. According to the Department of Veteran Affairs, more than 9 million Americans served during the Vietnam War era and more than 500,000 Veterans live in Arizona.
