Local author Dr. Jeanne Blanchet will have a book signing for the debut of her fifth work of historical fiction.

The book, entitled “Kamikaze: A Novel of the Mongol Invasions of Japan,” [Outskirts Press] is available online and in local bookstores and libraries in both paperback and e-book format. A book signing will take place 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22 at the El Dorado of Sun City, 10330 W. Thunderbird Blvd., Sun City.

The novel takes place in Japan’s turbulent Kamakura era, a news release states, in an action-packed romance set against the background of Kublai Khan’s 1274 and 1281 CE attempted invasions of the Land of the Rising Sun. The story highlights Atsuko, an aristocrat, and Ichir, a swordsmith, as they attempt to fulfill their forbidden love.

Ms. Blanchet’s previous novels, “Forger of Empire” and “Man at the Cross Road: the Gripping Saga of Christ’s Chief Executioner,” won the Ben Franklin Silver Award in historical fiction in 2018, the bronze EVVY Award in 2019, and Second Place in historical fiction by Reader Views in 2017.

The author, who has written more than 15 books, received the coveted Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award, given to Marquis “Who’s Who in America” who have demonstrated outstanding leadership in their respective fields.
