Local author announces new book, concert

Sun City West resident Richard Lee Tucker has a new book out. Entitled “Birds and Beasts I Have Known,” the book recounts a number of close encounters and “conversations” Tucker has had with creatures ranging from tiny birds like the Ruby Crowned Kinglet and chipmunks, to mountain lions and larger animals including deer, elk, mountain goats and big moose at fairly close range. Chapter titles include “The Bird that Walked My Dog,” “Rufus And The Feral Cat,” “Mountain Lions We Have Met” and ”A Squirrel To The Rescue.”
The book is illustrated with photos, pencil drawings and sculpture by the author.
Although the author has had a number of close contacts with a variety of animals, he does not recommend anyone try to get close to creatures like bison, elk and moose. His contacts have, for the most part, been unintentional and fortunate.
Tucker will also presents a concert 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 9, at the Lord of Life Lutheran Church, 13724 W. Meeker Blvd. Using a number of harmonicas, a banjo and other instruments, the concert will include a variety of music from folk to Beethoven. The public is invited and there will be books available.
