Ladera: Sign stealing breaks state laws

Posted

On Friday, Oct. 2, while waiting to make a left turn off of Brookside onto Del Webb, I witnessed a guy on his golf car park at the center divider, get out and grab the Biden-Harris sign that was there - he started to rip it up but decided to drive away with it. By the time I got my phone out to take a picture of him taking the sign he had already driven by me.

I checked my rearview and saw he went into the parking lot behind the church that is there on the corner. I made a U-turn and parked...he came out of the parking lot about 45 seconds later and continued west on Brookside. I followed him so I could get a picture of his golf car license plate.  Once he parked in his driveway, I took a picture of his license plate and his address.  After he got done cussing at me (which seriously was one of the funniest things that has ever happened in my life — no joke!) I drove back to the church parking lot, found the dumpster, and found the Biden-Harris sign dumped there and took a picture of it.

All that being said, you know who you are. I want you to know that I have filed a report with the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Department and provided all the pictures, along with your address and golf car license plate.

In case you are not aware, it is a class 2 misdemeanor for any person to knowingly remove, alter, deface or cover any political sign of any candidate for public office or in support of or opposition to any ballot measure, question or issue or knowingly remove, alter or deface any political mailers, handouts, flyers or other printed materials. A conviction is a $750.00 fine and up to 4 months in jail.  They also have all my contact information as well as that of my daughter who was visiting me from California.

I think it’s ironic that you committed a crime while supporting a president who claims to be all about “law and order” and managed to break one of the Ten Commandments, 8th Commandment, “Thou shall not steal” while dumping the stolen sign in church’s dumpster.

Now I look forward to the next issue of the Independent with rebuttal letters filled with “whataboutisms”.  Wrong is wrong regardless of party.
