Kiwanis club donates rocking chair to school library

Posted

Members of the Sun City West Kiwanis Club donated a two-seat rocking chair to the Desert Oasis Elementary School library, 17161 W. Bajada Road, in memory of Nancy Kohl, an honorary member of the club.

When Ms. Kohl passed away in March 2019, the membership wanted to recognize her commitment to children as well as her commitment to the club. For years she read to students at Desert Oasis on a weekly basis as part of the club's “Read Around the World” program and for a number of years held volunteer art classes at the school.

To acknowledge her involvement with Desert Oasis, the club purchased the two-seat rocking chair. Due to the on-going pandemic, Dan Kohl, Ms. Kohl's husband of 73 years, was not able to attend the presentation of the chair to the school. That presentation will take place at a later date.

The Sun City West Kiwanis Club meets 8 a.m. the first and third Tuesday of each month at the Sun City West Foundation, 14465 R.H. Johnson Blvd.
