Kepler: Golf cars stolen with regularity in Sun City

Posted

The letter about Paul Peloquin’s golf car being stolen (“Statements about signs not logical,” Sun City Independent, Oct. 28, 2020) happens with regularity in Sun City.

Getting an older golf car is not an answer as those get stolen as well.

The thing everyone in Sun City should be aware of is those golf car keys are not a theft deterrent. With all the golf cars around all you have to do is keep testing them into a golf car until you find one that starts. We know four friends who have had their golf cars stolen.

If you want to keep your golf car from being stolen, you have to have an after market key and switch installed, which is more like a car key.

Or you can use a “kill switch” or a steering wheel lock, such as The Club. There are also wheel locks, even a bike chain with a lock from the steering wheel to the frame will help deter a thief. These add on security devices still can be overcome but It makes your golf car just that much more difficult to steal.

All these deterrents are sold at places like Amazon or a local golf car shops. If you choose to do nothing then it’s just a matter of luck and time.
