James, aged 87, passed away on July 2, 2024, in Sun City, Arizona. Born on September 17, 1936, in Detroit, Michigan, he moved to Chicago, Illinois, in his late teens, where he built a life and career before retiring to Sun City in the late 1990s. Jim was the beloved son of Carl and Marion Gatscher and cherished brother to Charles, Joseph and Robert. He was a loving uncle to Tracey Emmanuel, Scott and Bob and a doting great-uncle to grandnieces Michelle, Samantha, and Erin. Throughout his life, Jim dedicated himself to community service, volunteering for nine years at Banner Hospital and contributing multiple seasons to the Peoria Sports Complex. His passion for the arts led him to participate for several years in the Sun City Players Community Theater, where he notably portrayed “Del Webb” at Sun City’s 50th anniversary celebration. Jim was widely known for his kindness and his unwavering willingness to lend a helping hand to those in need. He remained active throughout his years in Sun City, engaging in water aerobics and various other activities that enriched his life and fostered numerous friendships. Jim leaves behind a legacy of compassion, community spirit, and a profound impact on all who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and the community he served with such dedication and warmth. Condolences extended to all who knew and loved him.
