Important annual meeting information for Sun City homeowners

Posted

There were several items discussed during the Feb. 10 Exchange meeting between the Recreation Centers of Sun City Board of Directors and RCSC members that Sun City homeowners should know about.

Proxy voting for the RCSC Annual Membership Meeting, which we are entitled to as stated in the bylaws, is not guaranteed to you unless you cannot provide a “live” signature to a circulator. A circulator is a person who has committed to carrying proxies for members who are unable to attend the annual meeting.

You cannot email, fax or scan your proxy to a circulator. You must mail it via the U.S. Postal Service, making sure that it reaches the circulator well before March 5, the date they must turn in the proxies they are holding. Unfortunately, there is no way for you to know who is a circulator. To get the correct information about proxy voting, call the corporate office at 623-561-4600. You also can find proxy information and forms at https://suncityaz.org/forms.

Budget information is still confusing. What is a fact is that for the first time in published/recorded history, RCSC encountered its first loss (deficit) even after starting the year with a $3.2 million surplus. Many numbers were discussed, but the one that confused me is how talking about any interest income of accounts has any bearing on a deficit or can offset any negative amount. Again, call the corporate office with questions.

We are still gathering signatures for the petition asking the board to please do its job, as specified in the bylaws/policies, and terminate the general manager for poor performance. Someone will try to be at the Bell Center by the main library/visitor/welcome center to collect signatures. I will rotate among the other rec centers. Email me at jean.tottenonenote@gmail.com to find out where I’ll be. I will be unavailable from Feb.  21 to 26.

The annual meeting at 6 p.m. March 11 at Sundial Recreation Center is the most important meeting of the year for Sun City homeowners. Registration starts at 5 p.m.

If we can reach the quorum of 500, we can to vote on any amendments/motions brought forth by fellow members. It is the only meeting where we will have the opportunity to vote!

Please send your comments to AzOpinions@iniusa.org. We are committed to publishing a wide variety of reader opinions, as long as they meet our Civility Guidelines.
