Doing Grief Community Healing Project in Sun City will offer a prayer and meditation workshop, “Healing with Contemplative Spiritual Practices,” noon-1:30 p.m. Thursday, May 22, at the Banner Olive Branch Senior Center, 13049 N. 103rd Ave.
Shea Darian, a spiritual care provider and director of Doing Grief, will guide participants to explore prayer and meditation practices from various traditions including Lectio Divina and Lectio Musica (meditating on sacred readings and music), Buddhist Lovingkindness Meditation, breathing practices and movement prayers.
Lynette Turner, an interfaith-interspiritual minister and trained sound healer, will offer a sound healing meditation to calm the mind and body. Those of all faiths and philosophies are welcome to attend and no experience is necessary.
“Meditation has been a fundamental part of my life for many years. It heightens my self-awareness and has been a profound way to practice mindfulness,” Turner remarked. “If you can embrace the idea that meditation is deeply personal and there is no wrong way to meditate, it can have a deeply positive impact.”
Doing Grief Community Healing Project offers small group and one-to-one grief support, grief education, spiritual enrichment and healing through the arts programs.
“You don’t have to be in the throes of deep grief to find healing here,” Darian said. “We all experience grief from death, illness, broken relationships, aging and so many other losses throughout life. So, stocking up on healing is a smart move.”
Upcoming programs include Fiber Sculpting with art teacher Ellen Merchant noon-2:30 p.m. Thursday, June 12, Geometric Drawing with Dr. Andrew Darian noon-2 p.m. Thursday, June 19, and Art Share Circle with Shea Darian noon-2 p.m. Thursday, June 26.
