Graettinger: Think of volunteers during holidays in Sun City

Posted

This holiday season let’s stop and appreciate the profound glory of living in Sun City and being a part of a community that embraces all of our needs.

Let’s pause and look at what has been created for us and be dazzled by the sights and sounds of living here. Christmas is that time of year when we need to stop and inhale our collective breaths and say, “Thank you.”

So, let’s take a moment and not only praise the work of the Sun City Posse, but the Sun City PRIDES who maintain our streets, and the Sun City Foundation volunteers who help those Sun City residents who struggle to make ends meet. Let’s say “thank you” to  all those other Sun City residents who care to make a difference.

The amazing factor in all of this is we all are Sun City residents. We all are neighbors, friends and social club members who want to make a difference as volunteers. So, when you meet a Posse, PRIDES or any other giving member of our community during the wondrous days of Christmas, do tell them how much you appreciate their efforts.

But there also is another way to say thank you to our patrol people who are out there taking care of Sun City residents, like the woman who severely cut her leg and required our help to stop the bleeding while waiting for medical help; or the patrol member who found the door open on a house that had been vacated for the summer and reported it to the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office.

Each year, the Posse holds a fundraiser to offset expenses because we do not receive government subsidies or grants. This year, we gave out bright orange and spectacular yellow stickers that depict the Arizona desert to residents who donated to our fundraising efforts. So, if you have already donated you should have received a sticker that you can proudly display in the window at your home or on your golf car or the back of your car.

But the giving doesn’t stop there. For those people who missed out on the annual fundraising drive, there is still an opportunity to get one of these exciting stickers — for a small donation.

You can pick one up 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday-Friday at Sun City Posse headquarters, 10861 Sunland Drive.

Let’s keep the spirit of holiday community outreach alive all year long by displaying one of the Sun City Posse’s annual fundraising stickers.
