Graettinger: Sun City Posse fundraising in full swing

Posted

Every day our mailboxes are brimming with solicitation letters, fundraising requests and just silly sales pitches that quickly end up in the deep six trash.

But there is one fundraising request that deserves your attention. It is the annual request from the Sun City Posse.

Unlike the requests from people and organizations we don’t know, this request is truly personal to you and to us, because we are the people who look after your safety by patrolling the streets and just watching out for you. Whatever your needs, our dedicated men and women, in their grey and black uniforms, stand ready to help.

Now I know what you are thinking. More out-of-pockets expenses. But hold on. One of the major misconceptions about the Posse is that we receive all kinds of money from outside sources. Not true! We do not receive any government funds or any kind of subsidies or entitlements.

The rest is up to you. If you like the kinds of services we provide that include Vacation Watch, Block Watch, welfare checks, funeral watch and the work we do with the Sun City Fire and Medical Department, then sit down, write a check and include it in the self-addressed envelope we have sent to your home; or drop your donation off at Posse headquarters, 10861 W. Sunland Drive.

The energy again behind this year’s fundraising efforts is Posse MSgt. Carol Perko. She and her volunteers do all of the work, including stuffing envelopes.

More than 28,000 letters have been stuffed, sealed and sent. In the past, residents received multiple letters, but our Posse members have been updating our resident list so, hopefully, this year you will only receive one letter.

The Posse has conducted its annual fundraising for the past 40 years. This is the money we use to cover our operating budget and these are the donations that keep the Posse’s doors open.

“The generous people of Sun City, through their donations, make it possible for the Posse to continue to patrol the streets of Sun City, check houses through our Vacation Watch program and coordinate the Block Watch programs,” Posse Commander Danny Moore said. “And we say thank you to all Sun City residents who take the time to make a donation.”
