Graettinger: Sun City Poose looking for good volunteers

There are superb quotes from legendary writers and leaders like Maya Angelou, Martin Luther King and Aristotle about the value, significance and merits of volunteerism, but ironically it is a quote by an unknown author that best characterizes all of the attributes, values and traits of our volunteers in the Sun City Posse.

“Volunteering is the ultimate exercise in democracy. You vote in elections every year, but when you volunteer, you vote every day about the kind of community you want to live in.” — Author unknown.

That is what the Posse is all about, making Sun City the “kind of community,” we all want to live in. And we need you!

The Posse cannot exist without volunteers willing to work a couple of hours or one or two days, or more, to be a part of this outstanding organization. Whether it is on patrol or working in one of the offices at our headquarters, 10861 W. Sunland Drive, we are putting out the request for you to help.

The Posse has been around for nearly 50 years and during that time Sun City residents have been on board. They have served as dispatchers and patrol people; they have helped with technical support and running our Vacation Watch program; they have sat at the front desk welcoming people and they answer our telephones and direct calls. They are the eyes and ears of our community.

Now, it is time for you to hear the call and put us at the top of your priority list of new activities to investigate and join.

Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, our volunteer staff never missed a day in its duty to protect you. Yes, we too, had our share of schedule juggling because of illnesses, but we remained vigilant in our determination to be here for you.

So, think about becoming a Posse volunteer. We have a rich history of dedicated Posse members who have been part of the Posse for years and many of whom are your neighbors.

So don’t take my word for it because it is my job to promote the Posse, but the next time you see a Posse member ask them what t it is like to wear a uniform. Or take a moment and visit our headquarters or our satellite office, 10415 W. Grand Ave., located in the Grand Center building and ask to speak with one of our members.

For us, our best advertisement is our members. We love what we do and we welcome you to our family.
