Graettinger: Chat with the Sun City Posse leader

Posted

A morning of coffee and conversation with the commander of the Sun City Posse is on the agenda for the end of this month.

The Sun City Posse is as transparent a safety organization as you can get in today’s ever changing world, but we want to do more and be more for our community.

The event is scheduled 9:30-11 a.m. Thursday, June 30, at our Posse headquarters, 10861 Sunland Drive. There is parking at the front and side of the building.

During this 90-minute sit down with Posse Commander Marc Fuller, you will have the opportunity to talk about issues that concern you, fears you have in this complex world and how we can make things better.

For nearly 50 years, we have been the volunteer organization that patrols the streets and helps keep our community safe. We work closely with the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office, the Sun City Fire and Medical Department, and other safety agencies on a daily basis. But more importantly, and since our first day on the job, part of our mandate has always been to listen to our residents.

Although there will be some agenda items, including our Neighborhood Watch plan, our Local patrol activity, our Vacation Watch program, working with the MCSO and our neighborhood traffic concerns, the final item on the agenda is, “What else is on your mind?” That is when residents will be able to do just that, talk about their concerns.

Today, Sun City is experiencing a rash of illegal activities that, as a community, we have not experienced before. The number of break-ins and damage to homes vacated by residents for the summer has increased. The problems with the homeless wandering our streets has quadrupled. Although, thanks to the number of people who have volunteered as Posse members, we have been able to increase our hours of patrol, the problems continue to exist.

So, we want to hear from you. What ideas do you have to handle some of the challenges we face and how can we make the lives of our residents even better? Join us at the end of the month, bring your compliments and concerns and let’s make Sun City the retirement community we all want.

For more information you can contact the Posse at 623-972-2555, ext. 144.
