Daphne and Ralph are young classics professors who have just made a discovery that’s sure to turn them into academic superstars. But something goes disastrously wrong, and Daphne cries out in a panic, “Save me, gods of ancient Greece!”… and the gods actually appear.

The Ivy League will never be the same as a pair of screwball deities encounters the carnal complexity of college coeds, campus capers, and conspicuous consumption.

“Gods of Comedy” performs Jan. 20-30 at Stage Left Productions, in the Bell Mar Plaza at 11340 W. Bell Road, Suite 105 next door to Hurricane Grill and Wings.

Performances are at 7 p.m. Thursdays through Saturdays and at 4 p.m. Sundays. Tickets are $28 reserved seating and may be purchased online at www.stageleftaz.com or at the box office on from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesdays and one hour prior to a performance.

Daphne is played by Katryce Bridges, who is new to the Valley, having recently graduated from Rockford University in Illinois with a bachelor’s degree in musical theatre. This play marks her Phoenix theater scene debut.

Ralph is played by local actor Cliff Williams. Williams has worked with numerous theatres in the valley including Childsplay, Southwest Shakespeare, and TheatreWorks. Cliff is also currently working on a pilot for “The Soundguy,” which is scheduled to hit the film festival circuit later this year.

Playing the “Gods of Comedy” are Shelly Boucher and Hector Coris, who are no strangers to the theatre. To finish up the cast is Thomas F. Graca, Deborah Lee Hall and Ixy Utpadel.

The play is directed by Stage Left Production artistic director Cody Dull, who recently received his second AriZoni Award in Directing for his direction of Stage Left’s 2020 holiday show “Who’s Holiday.” Dull’s first directing award was for Ken Ludwig’s “The Comedy of Tenors” in 2020.

The Gods of Comedy premiered at the McCarter Theatre Center in Princeton, N.J. in 2019 and The Old Globe in San Diego the same year.
