Free ‘Phone Pals’ program helps combat social isolation during COVID-19

Benevilla offers service as part of Home Services

Benevilla’s free Home Services Program is providing “Phone Pals” wellness checks, grocery shopping assistance, assisted transportation to essential medical appointments, and support with emergency errands as seniors self-isolate due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Services are available short- or long-term to those with limited resources and options.

“Social isolation has been demonstrated to lead to numerous detrimental health effects in older adults including an increased number of falls, feelings of loneliness negatively affecting both physical and mental health, increased vulnerability, an increased risk for dementia and even an increased risk for mortality,” a Benevilla April 1 news release states.

This free program is possible through the help and support of community volunteers.

Call 623-584-4999 to sign up for or learn more about these free services.

Benevilla is located at 16752 N. Greasewood St., Surprise.
