VETERANS DAY
Free patriotic concert features chorus, band
Posted
By Nancy Rasmussen
The Sun City Women’s Chorus and Concert Band team up to present a Veterans Day Tribute 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 6, at the Sun Bowl, 10220 N. 107th Ave.
For the second year, these two musical groups will provide an uplifting concert featuring a program of patriotic standards and inspiring arrangements.
Concert Band conductor Ken Jaeger and Chorus Director Velda Jensen have rehearsed for months to bring Sun City residents a quality performance.
Jaeger is a graduate of Arizona State University with a master’s from Souther Oregon University (Ashland). He served as band director at Tolleson and Westview high schools, where his bands received more than three hundred music awards.
Jensen began her interest and love of performing choral music at the early age of 13 when she was first introduced to accompanying her junior high mixed chorus.
“It is a joy to be involved with the Veterans Day celebration,” she said. “I was raised in a family of military men. We have a history of service back to and including the Civil War. My father was one of eleven brothers who have served in every branch of service in every conflict since World War II. I am proud of and respect them and those who served and do now serve. This music touches my heart and reminds me that there is much that is good in a world that is troubled.”
The Sun City Women’s Chorus has been making joyful music in Sun City since 1963 and is a chartered club of the Recreation Centers of Sun City. The chorus meets in the Fairway center music room 8:45-11 a.m. Thursdays and welcomes new members.
The concert is free to RCSC members and their accompanied guests. RCSC cards must be presented to enter.
