Ford: Which came first, woman or train horns?

Posted

Regarding the woman who is getting petitions signed to silence the trains and their honking at intersections (“I hear that train a coming,” Sun City Independent, Sept. 18, 2019), who was there first? The trains or the woman?
She knew when she purchased her place that there were train tracks nearby. Also, maybe she needs to make the change herself by purchasing dual pane windows and new doors, if she doesn’t have them already. We live very close to where the trains honk and don’t hear them anymore because we did that. Another option: get some ear plugs!
The amount it would cost to make all of the changes that would need to be done to silence the trains is ridiculous, and it would cost taxpayers a lot of money. So maybe instead of spending time getting people to sign her petitions, she should spend time shopping for new doors and windows (or ear plugs).
She is like the people who complain about the loud jets from the military base. They were here before you were, so as far as I’m concerned you just have to deal with it, which could mean moving! I hope my taxes do no increase because of the petitions that are getting signed! The people who sign the petitions should have to pay the taxes themselves! I have no problem with the trains (or planes)!
I would like to add that I think it was great that the woman looked into this and tried to do something initially. I just feel that once she found out how much work would need to be done to accomplish her goal and how much money it would cost the taxpayers, that she should have dropped it then.
Just my opinion.
