Fall hiking season gets underway in Sun City

Group has full schedule

Posted

The Sun City Hikers conducted their fall meeting Oct. 26 in the White Tanks Regional Park.

The day started out with a hike for the members to get limbered up and ready for the new season. After the morning hikes, 67 people in all gathered around the benches and ate the lunches they brought and caught up with friends that came back to Arizona for the winter. Lots of stories about summer adventures, and all were happy to be out and hitting the trails again.

The monsoons were very good to the White Tanks. The desert is alive and green. The brittle bush and creosote are displaying vibrant greens, while the cholla are dazzling in their luminescence.

Sun City Hikers President Deb Frank brought the meeting to order, introducing the officers of the club and giving us a review of last season and a precursor of things to come. Vice President and Membership Chairwoman Joette Conger gave a rundown on the membership numbers and new applications for membership. Hike Chairman Rod Frank gave a talk on the club overnight hikes that will take place around Tucson in November.

Residents who are interested in becoming a member of the hiking club and getting out to enjoy the desert can visit the group’s website at suncityhikers.org and follow the prompts on the left column.
