Evelyn Rohart

Posted

Evelyn, 97, passed away peacefully on December 24, 2020. She was born on May 7, 1923 in Paterson, N.J.
Survivors include her loving children: Kenneth Huff and his wife Cindi of Oro Valley, AZ, David Huff and his wife Ann of Watertown, CT, Barbara Gayle Golden wife of the late Les Golden of Mesa, AZ, George Schilling (special son-in-law) and his wife Carmen of Peoria, AZ; 7 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and 13 great- great-grandchildren.
She leaves behind a legacy of her children; It was especially important to Evelyn to know her family had grown so large since she was adopted at the age of four and moved several times in her younger years from Paterson, N.J. to Washington D.C., Binghamton, N.Y. and back to Paterson, N.J.
While raising three children by herself, she worked in the textile industry at Van Raalte Lace Mill. Here she worked for 27 years, starting as a bobbin stripper and working her way up to the highest position that could be held by a woman at the time; a bobbin winder.
In 1970 she married Arthur Rohart and the two of them moved to Florida to enjoy the sunshine and their retirement years. Upon Arthur’s passing, she knew she needed to move near her family. She decided Arizona was the best match with the warm weather she had grown accustomed to, so in 1998 she made the big move to Arizona and said it “was the best move” she ever made.
Evelyn became active at the American Lutheran Church in Sun City, where she enjoyed volunteering for the many senior activities. She also treasured the numerous trips her grandchildren and great-grandchildren made from out of state to visit with her.
Evelyn lived her last six years at Glencroft Retirement Home in Glendale, AZ, where she enjoyed the loving support of her family; most notably daughter Barbara Gayle and Carmen & George Schilling who met most of her daily needs and were there for her at a moment’s notice.
Evelyn was a strong woman with a very loving side and those of us that were lucky enough to have had her in our life were blessed to have been influenced and loved by her. She set the bar high for all of us.
A private memorial service and interment will be held for family members at a later date in Deltona, Florida. To leave messages of condolence for the family, please visit www.sunlandmemorial.com.
