Estrella Chapter, NSDAR, celebrates U.S. Constitution

Members of the Estrella Chapter, NSDAR, joined other DAR chapters and guests Sept. 17 for the 2022 Constitution Day Luncheon hosted by the Sons of the American Revolution Saguaro Chapter at Palmbrook Country Club in Sun City.

Constitution Week was Sept. 17-23 and the event was held exactly 235 years to the day of the signing of the United States Constitution. The thirty-nine signers of the Constitution were celebrated and the theme of the luncheon was “We The People.” DAR, SAR and C.A.R. members, along with the students, read the profiles of the signers.

Students from Canyon Ridge School in Surprise dressed to represent Revolutionary participants as they mingled with the guests during the lunch talking about their character and answering questions.

Estrella Chapter, NSDAR, hosted the 2021 Constitution Day Luncheon and Aqua Fria Chapter, NSDAR, will host the 2023 Constitution Day Luncheon. Hosting responsibilities are rotated annually among the two NSDAR and SAR Chapters.

In 1955, the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution petitioned Congress with a resolution to set aside Sept. 17-23 dedicated for the observance of Constitution Week. The annual celebration was established when signed into law by President Dwight D. Eisenhower Aug. 2, 1956. NSDAR is committed to encouraging study and educating the public about the Constitution and the men who framed it.

Daughters of the American Revolution Society was founded in 1890 with the simple mission of promoting historic preservation, education and patriotism and these timeless overarching principles keep the DAR and its chapters strong and vitally relevant in this ever-changing world. Women descendants of persons who served or aided the cause of the Revolution are eligible to join.

Call Nancy Nixon, 623-332-7894, for information.

Estrella Chapter meets monthly on the second Thursday of each month, October through May, at the Sun City West Foundation, 14465 W. R.H. Johnson Blvd.
