Edwards: Sun City resident was treated poorly

Posted

I have never felt compelled to write a letter to an editor, but I feel I can’t ignore the disrespectful way a Sun City resident was treated by the Recreation Centers of Sun City board at its Feb. 27 meeting.

A Sun City resident was given the opportunity to speak at the podium. He was told he had three minutes to speak. There was a large digital clock up front that began counting down as he began speaking.

The resident was speaking about the negative aspect of using punch cards at Lakeview park when we are just showing people around. He spoke in a very respectful and well prepared manner.

When the three minutes ran out, the board president told him the time had run out. The resident stated he had only four more sentences to go. He continued to speak. At this point the microphone was turned off. He continued to speak and finished. He thanked the board for allowing him to speak.

As he walked to his chair the board president rudely replied, “Thank you for going over your time.” This came from the man telling us to do unto others as we would want them to do unto us.

The disrespect and unkind behavior was shocking.
