Dumais: Motorized boats are a nuisance in Sun City

Posted

This is regarding the board’s motion to allow boats to be launched at the dock and ramp, as stated in the board motion: “Third Reading Motion No. 3 by Vice President Lehrer - I move to amend Board Policy 10, Boating Section, No. 5 so that model boat users can safely put their boats in and out of the water at Viewpoint Lake as follows: 5. Model boat use (electric or wind-powered) allowed by RCSC Cardholders who assume responsibility for keeping model boats clear of watercraft and those fishing. No model boat use at or near boat dock or boat launch.”

To the Recreation Centers of Sun City board members:

I would like to know if you people use and enjoy one of Sun City’s most pristine facilities, Viewpoint Lake. I have since I purchased my first home here in 2012, I currently own two Sun City homes, and when my late mother, who had a home here in the 1990s, encouraged me to move here. Our community is going through changes. Most of which are not good. Run down properties, junk vehicles in back yards, etc.

Have any of you witnessed these electric (motorized speed) boats? I have on several occasions. I am not referring to the people who enjoy their yacht club every Tuesday and Thursday. These speed boats are capable of doing 40 knots. Yes, I was in the U.S. Navy. They completely disrupt everything else that is going on in the vicinity and are completely unconcerned about the commotion they are creating.

So, forget about catching up on your rereading of the Book of Matthew (The New Testament) while sitting by the lake. And you are proposing to allow them by the boat dock? What happens when three or four residents show up with these speed craft at the same time?

If you respond to me please give a logical reason for changing the policy (and Sun City in the process).

Thank you.
