The Artists by the Lake club has named Donna Berger its April “Artist of the Month.”

Since childhood, Ms. Berger has always loved drawing, painting and crafting. She studied art in high school, where she won an art award in her senior year, and went on to major in art at Western Illinois University for two years.

She married, had two children and gave up her art. Luckily, her mother gave her a book by Lin Wellford, “Painting Pets on Rocks,” and she started painting animals on rocks in acrylic and later expanded from that to creating pet portraits on rocks. As art became her focus, Ms. Berger began working in pencil, charcoal, watercolor and pastels. She has sold many custom pet portraits on rocks, as well as in other mediums.

“I am inspired by nature and take many photos to use as references for my work” stated Ms. Berger. “Since moving to Sun City, I have learned so much from the many talented teachers at both art clubs and developed an interest in creating portraits. I also enjoy having fun with abstract art.”

As an artist, Ms. Berger is proud to have won various awards in the Sun City art shows. She continues her growth as an artist in classes at the Artists by the Lake Club. Classes are offered for beginner through advanced expertise.

Join Artists by the Lake with an RCSC card and $10 yearly dues. The art room is open 9 a.m.-4 p.m. daily and the club is offering small classes for members in watercolor, pastel, oil, alcohol ink and acrylics.
