The Del Webb Sun Cities Museum this month unveils its third in a series of five “History Maker” video presentations – an interview Wally Britton, vice president of construction for the Del Webb Development Company during the 1960s and early 1970s.
The program follows the already-released History Maker video interviews featuring Don Tuffs and Ed Allen. Both are available to view in the Sundome Jr. Theater at the museum and on the museum’s You Tube channel.
The museum will partner with First Christian Church of Sun City to debut Britton’s History Maker interview during a program scheduled 1 p.m. Dec. 20. First Christian Church is located at 14001 N. Thunderbird Ave., Sun City. Admission is free and open to the public.
Britton’s story offers a treasure trove of historical information and chronicles the story of Sun City's construction during its first decade.
At one point in the 1960s, Britton’s team was finishing one house every hour – eight per day. He explains the mystery behind the famous circular Sun City streets and neighborhoods and describes building many of the community’s most iconic structures and buildings.
The final two videos will feature Jerry Svendsen, public relations manager for DEVCO during the 1960s and ‘70s. The museum expects to have his videos later this month and will unveil at least one of them at the historical society’s annual meeting Jan. 13 at Palm Ridge Recreation Center in Sun City West.
The History Makers project was funded by a grant to the museum from the Del E. Webb Foundation.
