Daughters honor surviving spouses

Sun City Agua Fria National Society Daughters of the American Revolution Honorary Chapter Regent Shirley Staggs presented Vietnam War era commemorative surviving spouse lapel pins and brochures explaining the meaning of the symbols on the pin to three Sun City Calligraphy Club members at the Sundial Recreation Center.

Jane Smith’s husband Dean served in the United States Marines, Judith Gilson’s husband Richard served in the U.S. Air Force and Charlene Carrillo’s husband Nicholas served in the U.S. Air Force. Their spouses were veterans who served on active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces during the period of Nov. 1, 1955, to May 15, 1975, regardless of location of service.

The Agua Fria Chapter has partnered with the Department of Defense to recognize, honor and thank veterans and surviving spouses. Lapel pins will be presented until May 30, 2025, which will mark the 50th anniversary of the ending of the Vietnam War. Any organization can become partners with the DOD.
