Cummings: Resident sees compassion as best way to deal with homeless in Sun City

Posted

First of all, thank you Meryl Musgrave (“Homeless criticism not fact,” Sun City Independent, Sept. 15, 2021). You are right.

We need solutions for the homeless and, yes, compassion. I have helped the homeless here in Sun City now for many years. Mostly food and drinks, but sometimes a few dollars. I have even bought shoes for four of them and some socks and clothes. I have been able to get two of them off the street and in homes and they are doing well.

Right now I am helping a homeless man and his son. I think some of you can forget your Starbucks once in a while and instead give some food and drinks or a few dollars to the homeless. I guarantee you will feel better than what your Starbucks did for you. It’s a great feeling to help someone who is less fortunate.

We take for granted we have a home, food, air conditioning, TV, etc. We also forget Tyler Perry, Hilary Swank, Jewel the singer and a lot of others were homeless at some point in their lives. We don’t know their circumstances. They do need some help and compassion.

Remember, we are all here to help one another.
