Len Drago, of the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality, and Terry Baer, Parks and Sons Recycling Manager of Solid and Hazardous Waste, presented the Copper Award to the Caring Angels Organization Nov. 16 in Sun City.
The Caring Angels Organization was accepted into the Voluntary Environmental Stewardship Program and the Copper Level recognizes organizations that accomplish a project demonstrating an environmental benefit. Caring Angels leader Jody Swank accepted the certificate and the organization will be listed on the VESP website at azdeq.gov/VESP.
Caring Angels received this award because they recycled more than 34,000 plastic shopping bags, which were used in creating more than 200 crocheted sleeping mats for homeless veterans.
Anyone interested donating bags and/or joining Caring Angels can email email@example.com.
