Brown: Armed security not the answer for Sun City
Posted
Regarding the mere suggestion of armed security in Sun city to curtail thieving, etc. — really? What is wrong with you people?
The crime issue in our community is not new. It has sadly crept into our neighborhoods primarily because we have allowed it and encouraged it. Have you ever handed a $10 or $20 bill out the window to a panhandler? If so, you are the problem. At the zoos and wildlife parks they have signs that read, “Do not feed the animals.” There’s a reason for that! It makes the animals become dependent on the food being given to them. Same with panhandlers. The action of handing them money only invites and encourages more of the same.
Wanna do some math? Twenty thousand homes in Sun City, phases 1-3. We all pay $496 each and every year. That equates to $9,920,000 each and every single year! Then there’s the preservation and improvement fee of $3,500 for every time a house sells. In March of this year, almost 400 homes sold, equating to $1.4 million!
Before you decide to ding the kind residents of Sun City with any more costs, perhaps you should be asking where is this more than $10 million each and every year going?
If you truly want armed security, consider two things.
1. Utilize the money already in the coffers that you pay.
2. Or take care of and protect your own stuff! Don’t leave your bike outside at night, for example.
The mere idea of those pushing for Sun City residents to pay additionally for armed security is insanity! What could they actually do anyway? Nothing! Just as in any other city. Stop, think. Please!
