Beverly Joan (Bishop) Pettigrew, 91 years young, born August 31, 1933 and went to be with the Lord in heaven on December 25, 2024, Christmas Day.
She was the first in her family to be born in the United States, her hometown was Detroit, Michigan. Her parents immigrated from Nova Scotia, Canada. Beverly attended Detroit Public Schools. She went to Cass Technical High School, where she excelled in all areas of the arts and academics. She graduated Valedictorian of her class in 1951. During this time, she also won Best Dramatic Reading for the state of Michigan.
She married Howard Clinton Pettigrew, the love of her life, and she was a wonderful wife and mother. Beverly was spiritual, intelligent, loving, creative, artistic and talented. She went on to stage and radio and co-hosted a weekly local TV Show in her hometown of Detroit, Michigan. Beverly had a knack for business and in 1962 she was the number ONE Tupperware manager in the entire United States. She was an amazing cook and baker, winning numerous prizes both in Michigan, Arizona and Nationally.
Beverly and her husband moved to Arizona in 1985 and she began a career in Real Estate. She worked diligently and provided her customers with outstanding service. She became known as the ‘Golden Rule Girl’. She became one of the top realtors in Sun City, Arizona, and is listed in the book of Who’s Who of Real Estate, 1995.
Her faith was paramount and she was a member of Fountain of Life Lutheran Church of Sun City, Arizona. One of her favorite passages was “Those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary; they will walk and not be faint” (Isaiah 40:31) Another meaningful passage contains the words spoken by Jesus “Very truly I tell you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be judged but has crossed over from death to life” (John 5:24).
During Beverly’s last years she was cared for at home by her daughter, Holly. Beverly and Holly became very close, not only as mother and daughter, but also as best friends. They shared life, dreams, laughter, happiness, sadness and spent every day together for almost two decades and enjoyed each other’s company and friendship.
Beverly is survived by her daughter Holly Lynn Lusk, and her three stepdaughters that were loved as her own; Denise Sumner (Richard), Christine Hughes, Valerie Jennings, as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. If family and friends would like to remember her, The March of Dimes, The Salvation Army, or Hospice of the Valley, were her preferences.
Beverly was predeceased by her soulmate and her loving husband, a Lieutenant Fire Fighter from Lincoln Park, Michigan, her mother Eleanor (Ripley) Bishop and father Aubrey Bishop. She will be cremated and interned at the National Memorial Cemetery, AZ and placed alongside her sweetheart and husband.
