Benevilla recently announce the Benefitness Adaptive Gym, its latest program designed to meet a community need, is now open to the public.

“We are excited to offer such an amazing resource to those in our community facing the challenges of aging and adults with different abilities and special considerations,” said Lorrie Karn, Benevilla director of Benefitness, in a news release. “We are now accepting memberships. In fact, to celebrate the launch of the gym, we are running a special promotion on pricing packages. We are currently accepting reservations for our special ‘Founding Members’ club offering exclusive discounts for the first 25 ‘Elite Members’ and first 25 ‘Premier Members.’ The ‘Founding Members’ will also get great perks like an introductory swag bag filled with lots of Benefitness branded items.”

The adaptive gym provides specialized individual and group fitness instruction to Benevilla’s community of adults with differing abilities and special physical considerations including those with early onset diagnoses (e.g., Parkinson’s, dementia, MS, and more) looking to improve physical performance, mental acuity, strength, balance, and overall well-being.

Members will be guided to work out at their own ability level, yet coached to gain strength, mobility, and quality of life. Benefitness is an ideal gym for those who are just beginning their fitness journey, recovering from an illness or injury, or having a progressive diagnosis. Benefitness has selected equipment and class programming adaptive to individuals needing exceptional care.

Registrations are open for small group training classes where certified “coaches” will provide individual and small group instruction including circuit training, beneboxing, fall and injury prevention, stretch and range of motion, and Rock Steady Boxing. The gym will offer modified equipment for individuals in wheelchairs, people who have limited motion, and those who are differently abled.

“Our programs can help improve the strength, balance, and overall quality of life of our members. In the end it will improve the ability of our members to perform routine tasks of daily life hopefully keeping them independent at home longer” stated Joanne Thomson, Benevilla President and CEO, in the press release.

The adaptive gym will also have a room dedicated to the “Rock Steady Boxing” program. Rock Steady Boxing has been shown to mitigate and delay negative physical symptoms of Parkinson’s disease.

Exercises are inspired by boxing drills where members work on agility, speed, muscular endurance, accuracy, hand-eye coordination, footwork, and overall strength to defend against or overcome the decline related to Parkinson’s. There will also be a “BeneBoxing” program with the same boxing fundamentals but for those not experiencing Parkinson’s.

A healthy food and smoothie bar, Birt’s Café, will be available in the gym as well as the “Caregiver Retreat,” a unique respite and relaxation space with massage chairs, aromatherapy, a water feature and a conversation area.
