Bell pool’s temp perfect for fitness swimming

Posted

I’m puzzled by the complaint that the Bell Recreation Center pool is “so cold” in winter.

It’s the only outdoor pool that is designed for fitness lap swimming with a 25-yard length, shallow depth for flip turns, back stroke flags and official competitive tile markings.

The pool is heated as noted by Bell Center personnel, with a target temperature of 81 to 82 degrees Fahrenheit, an ideal temperature for fitness swimming.

The pool is the official meeting space for Sun City’s competitive U.S. Masters swim club from 7 to 9 a.m. Monday to Friday. It is also enjoyed by other fitness swimmers in Sun City.

It seems like the writer should just use one of the other outdoor resort pools (unsuitable for lap swimming) or the indoor pool at Sundial Recreation Center, all of which are kept at a warmer temperature more suitable for “floaters” rather than swimmers.

The walking pool at Bell is kept at a slightly warmer temperature to reflect a somewhat less strenuous activity. Too high a temperature is unhealthy for serious fitness swimming.
