Bashas’ bid long-time employee goodbye

Zahoran retires after 21 years

Bashas’ bid a long-time employee farewell.

Debbie Zahoran spent 21 years working for the grocery company. Staring as a courtesy clerk in a Chandler location. Her final assignment was at the Sun City West store, 13940 W. Meeker Blvd. Staff at that store gave her a small celebration for her May 29, the day of her retirement. That was followed by a family celebration that evening.

In addition to Chandler and Sun City West, Ms. Zahoran worked at other Bashas’ locations, including in Tempe and Scottsdale.

“Whenever the corporation had an emergency, she was always available to work other locations,” her sister, Marilyn Goodnight, stated in an email.

After her first year with the company, Ms. Zahoran was promoted to the manager of the Healty Choice Department.

“Her real passion was health and nutrition,” Ms. Goodnight stated.

Through the years, Ms. Zahoran found that area of the store was her special niche.

“I must admit, I loved it, and most of all I enjoyed helping people,” she stated in an email.

In her final five years, Ms. Zahoran worked as a cashier. Her customer service was such that she developed a group of loyal customers that would wait patiently in her line to be checked out by her, according to Ms. Goodnight. She also made a number of friends through her job in Sun City West, and friends within the community from outside the frame of her employment.

“This has been a great place to work,” Ms. Zahoran said during the retirement celebration.
