Posted

North County Fire and Medical District of Maricopa County will hold a special bond election Tuesday, Nov. 4. The district (as part of the Joint Powers Authority of the Arizona Fire & Medical Authority) seeks authorization to issue bonds in the principal amount not to exceed $40,400,000, bearing interest at a rate of not to exceed 9.00% per annum and extending for a term not exceeding 20 years and use the proceeds of such bonds, including any premium, to finance and/or refinance certain improvements in the district including, but not limited to, construction, renovation, improve, equip and furnish fire stations and other facilities, acquire apparatus, vehicles and equipment and other items, and paying all costs in connection with the issuance and sale of bonds.

The district will be preparing an informational pamphlet that will be mailed to households containing one or more registered electors within the district. Anyone wishing to submit an argument “for” or “against” the bond question (not to exceed 200 words) may do so electronically to info@afma.az.gov or by mail or hand delivery of the argument to the district at the office of the Arizona Fire & Medical Authority, 18818 N. Spanish Garden Drive, Sun City West, AZ 85375.

Call 623-544-5400.

To be included in the informational pamphlet, such arguments must be received in the office of the district on or before 5 p.m., July 18. Arguments must be signed and should include the name of the district, the author’s name, address and telephone number. Each argument filed shall contain the sworn statement of the person submitting it.

If the argument is submitted by an organization, it should contain the sworn statement of two executive officers of the organization. If the argument is submitted by a political committee, it shall contain the sworn statement of the committee’s chairperson or treasurer. If the argument is submitted by an individual and not on behalf of an organization, a political committee or any other group, the person shall submit the argument with a sworn, notarized statement.

The entity and author’s name will be printed in the informational pamphlet.

The last day to register to vote in order to be eligible to vote in this election is Monday, Oct. 6.
