Andrews: Not so crazy to want fee refund in Sun City

Posted

There were two opinion articles written regarding the Recreation Centers of Sun City (“RCSC involved in unfair tactics” and “Resident gives answers to letter writers,” Sun City Independent, Sept. 16, 2020).

The first letter was very critical of the RCSC and provided detailed reasons for the author’s concerns.

The second letter, purporting to give answers to the concerns of many Sun City residents, did not give any specific reasons whatsoever in defense of the RCSC. Instead the letter talked about the tough times we all face. Most concerning, though, was the tone of the letter, including “I feel the letters to the editor must be written by residents who have nothing to do all day,” “Residents wanting partial reimbursement back because areas have been shutdown — that’s crazy,” and “Did you ask your favorite restaurant or bars to issue you credit for missed meals and drinking?”

Guess I have “nothing to do all day” so let me put in my two cents worth.

So, we deadbeat residents are “crazy” for complaining that we are paying for a service that we can’t use. When RCSC facilities are totally unavailable for two months and restricted four months later and still counting, we would be crazy if we didn’t complain. The operations and maintenance expenses incurred by the RCSC have been much less than expected due to the virus. While many other businesses suffer financially the RCSC not only is not affected but profits from this horrible virus.

Finally, you brought up the restaurant analogy but you got it all wrong. We do not pay for meals and drinks we can’t get. In the RCSC “restaurant,” however, we have to pay for services we can’t get.

What a condescending letter, but it is, I believe, very much in line with how the RCSC normally treats its cardholders.
