Members of the American Association of University Women, Northwest Valley Branch, attended the AAUW Arizona Fall Forum, “Now We Lead,” Nov. 9 in Tucson. There were three speakers who, through interactive interviews and discussions on values and listening, shared their experiences and insights into leading organizations. 

Their woman-focused, refined approach to leadership involves facilitating member involvement and participation to fulfill the purpose and projects of their organizations.

The three speakers were: Melissa LaDuke, who is on the board of directors of AAUW and serves as chair of the Diversity, Inclusion and Equity Committee; Magdalena Verdugo, chief executive officer of the YWCA Southern Arizona, continuing to eliminate racism, empower women and promote peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all; and Linda Alepin, an author and educator. 

Regular AAUW NWV meetings are 9 a.m. the third Thursday of the month, September to April, at the Sun City West Foundation. There are also special interest groups such as Bridge, food and wine groups, Euchre, many book clubs, a hiking club, travel club, Women’s History and more.

AAUW membership is open to to anyone holding an associates, bachelor’s or higher degree from a regionally accredited college or university.
