AAUW holds scholarship fundraiser, fashion show

The American Association of University Women, Northwest Valley branch, held its annual scholarship fundraiser fashion show Jan. 19 at Briarwood Country Club.

A lunch was served with a choice of salmon, chicken marsala or lasagna and the theme of the event was “Chic Boutique and Cuisine.” Fashions were by Calle Rose. There were eight models who were members of AAUW and three sets of clothes were presented from casual to dressy.

Baskets, made by members of an AAUW special interest group, were raffled off and there was also a 50/50 and silent auction. All money received goes toward scholarships for women and girls.

AAUW NWV President Rosemary Dougherty was the emcee for the day. She presented recent scholarship winners Abagail Bennett, Rosa Maria Gonzalez and Jenna Alcantar. Each spoke about how grateful they were to receive the scholarships.

Regular AAUW NWV meetings are 9 a.m. the third Thursday of the month, from September to April, at the Sun City West Foundation.

Membership is open to anyone holding an associates, bachelor’s or higher degree from a regionally accredited college or university.

Call Dougherty at 623-760-8479 for more information.
