The Sun City Cycling Club reminds Sun City residents that the third annual 12 Hours of Sun City Bicycle Challenge is this Friday night, July 29, and Saturday morning, July 30.
Bicyclists will be riding an eight-mile loop all contained within Sun City starting at 8 p.m. July 29 and ending 8 a.m. July 30. Cyclists will ride anywhere from one loop to as many loops as they can complete before 8 a.m. Saturday. Several riders will ride the loop 13 times to complete 100 miles. All Saints of the Desert Episcopal Church will be the staging and control point during the event.
The route starts going east on Hutton Drive from the church, right on Greenway Road, left on Cameo Drive, cross Thunderbird Boulevard and keep right to stay on Cameo Drive. Left on Agua Fria Drive, left again on Agua Fria Drive. Follow back to All Saints of the Desert Episcopal Church.
Sun City residents should be aware of increased bicycle traffic and be extra cautious overnight July 29 and 30.
All participants are required to follow and comply with Arizona vehicle law regarding bicycles, including the requirement that bicycles and bicyclists have proper front and rear lighting as required by Arizona state law.
Funds raised during the event are used to fund club activities and support various local charitable groups.
