Youngtown Lending Center continues service

Need remains during pandemic

Posted

Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, the Youngtown Community Fund’s Medical Lending Center continues to serve the community.

Center staff conducted almost 125 individual transactions last month.

“We know the general public is still very concerned about the coronavirus, and its health implications, so we wanted everyone to know their safety and well-being are a top priority as we continue to stay open lending durable mobility devices, for free, to those in need,” said Madelon Jeffreys, Youngtown Community Fund board president.

The YCF is following all Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommended safety measures, guidelines and precautions to protect the wellbeing of clients and staff. Those who need a durable mobility device — wheelchair, walker, cane, etc. — p can get what they need by calling or visiting the center, 623-977-4661 or 11215-A W. Nevada Ave. They are free to use for up to four months. All equipment is sanitized when received from donations and when returned from use.

Center hours are 9 a.m.-noon Monday-Saturday.

During the early 1960s a group of concerned Youngtown residents saw an unfulfilled need for those living there. Their purpose was to assist those needing financial help and provide the community with the loan of medical equipment for a short-term use. Since its inception, the demographics of Youngtown have changed and the service area of the YCF expanded to the communities of El Mirage, Surprise and Peoria.

The Youngtown Lending Center lends a myriad of needed health equipment, including two-wheel walkers, wheelchairs, bath benches, bed rails, bedside tables, lifts, roll-a-way beds, bed canes, four-wheel walkers, shower chairs, bathtub grab rails, toilet seat risers, canes, crutches, commode chairs, transfer benches and more. All services are operated through volunteer help and donations from those assisted and from individuals who appreciate the service that is provided.

Donations are always appreciated. YCF is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, so all donations are income tax deductible and also qualify for the Arizona State Charitable Tax Credit. Volunteers are needed for picking up donated equipment, repairing broken equipment, distributing literature, cleaning and sanitizing returned equipment, office support, fundraising and membership on the board of directors. Call 623-977-4661.
