A woman is dead after she was stabbed in El Mirage.

Lexie Jean Walters, 21, was arrested in connection with the incident.

Around 3:30 a.m. Saturday, El Mirage police repsonded to a stabbing near  El Mirage Road and Sweetwater Avenue.

Police arrived to find a female with two stab wounds to her shoulder and arm. She was taken to the hospital for treatment.

However, during the investigation, police said the female succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead around 7 a.m. Saturday. She was identified Tuesday morning as Jayme L. Ripple, 23.

Police learned a male and the victim were walking up a driveway of a residence when a woman approached them and allegedly stabbed the female victim. The male told officers he pulled a knife away from the suspect, who then fled the area.

Police were able to identify the suspect as Ms.  Walters, who lived about a six-minute walk from the victim's residence.

Ms. Walters told police she had been with the victim and other people at the victim's home when they decided to go out and buy drugs. However, she said the victim became upset that Ms. Walters did not help with the purchase. She said the victim began to assault her while they were in a vehicle. The confrontation continued outside, during which Ms. Walters' belongings were taken.

According to records, Ms. Walters was dropped off near her home. She then retrieved a knife from her home and went back to the victim's home to retrieve her property.

Ms. Walters claimed the victim grabbed her hair and got in her face. At that point, Ms. Walters allegedly pulled out the knife and stabbed the victim.

Ms. Walters was jailed without bond on charges of second-degree murder, aggravated assault and disorderly conduct.
