Wilson: Caution called for in schools

Posted

Some people are a little confused about teacher unions. We don’t have unions in Arizona, we have associations. Unions have a right to collective bargaining, associations don’t.

Associations bring teacher issues to the superintendent, and provide benefits to its members, not to students. Teachers care for students; educate them, act as role models, often surrogate parents, provide for their needs, etc.

During this pandemic, teachers are expressing their concern for the health of students and themselves. This is not being selfish, it’s being cautious.

As a retired teacher I have walked a mile in their shoes and know that classrooms are packed tight with kids and constant contact is inevitable.
