Mediacom Communications has been named a hunger hero by United Food Bank.

The Hunger Hero Award recognizes Mediacom for taking an active role in the fight to end hunger by providing the funding to purchase 50,000 meals for those in need across United Food Bank’s 19,608-square-mile service territory, according to a release.

This donation was part of a larger Mediacom initiative that has resulted in the company contributing more than $100,000 to food banks across the nation over the past 18 months.

“It’s been an incredibly challenging few years for so many people living in Eastern Arizona,” said Marla Bowen, Mediacom’s senior director of area operations. “We are proud assist United Food Bank in its ongoing effort to help those suffering from food insecurity.”

A member of Feeding America, United Food Bank is based at 245 S. Nina Drive in Mesa and distributes food to hungry people in Gila, Pinal and southern Apache and Navajo Counties along with the East Valley of Maricopa County. Go to unitedfoodbank.org.
