Ubert: Sun City course maintenance neglected

Posted

This is a request for Recreation Centers of Sun City General Manager Bill Cook.

Congratulation on being named to this important position. With this comes the responsibility to hear and respond to concerns of RCSC cardholders. I have been a cardholder for 17 years. During this time many changes were made to the golf courses. Millions of dollars spent on various renovations to almost all our courses. Most, if not all, under the direction of Brian Duthu.

The concerns that various golfers and golf groups have is the way our courses have been neglected as to maintenance. As an example, the North course was renovated at a cost of $6 million-plus. The irrigation and drainage system was replaced and changes made to greens, fairways, bunkers. etc. The first time it rained there was flooding in different areas of the course. A lake formed behind the first green and second tee box. Two drains between the 14th tee and green had marker cones placed next to them since they became a hazard. They should have replaced by the contractor.

Cardholders need to see the rec fees they pay spent more judiciously. Mr. Cook, it may be time for a new director of golf.
