Scottsdale police are investigating the drowning Monday morning of a toddler near 7000 East Virginia Avenue.
Authorities received a call about 11:30 a.m. Monday, March 13, for a “baby not breathing.” They said 911 dispatchers provided instructions to the caller to perform CPR.
Fire, medical and police arrived and discovered it was a drowning, and the 2-year-old boy was taken to a pediatric trauma hospital where he died.
Police said the drowning occurred in a pool at a neighbor’s house, and detectives are investigating.
“Our in-house crisis counselors have also been sent to be with the family as they navigate this tragedy,” police said in a release.
The home where the drowning occurred is a short-term rental, police said, and it was vacant at the time of the drowning.
Code enforcement visited the property and found it was in compliance, police said.
"Our detectives are still investigating the circumstances of how it happened. There are no obvious signs of foul play," police said in a release late Monday afternoon.
