A man is accused of shooting at multiple people in Avondale while picking up his child.

According to his Form IV report, Russell Burns, 19, was arrested Tuesday on charges of attempted murder, discharge of a firearm in city limits, endangerment, aggravated assault.

Around 3 p.m. Tuesday, police responded to the area of McDowell Road and Avondale Boulevard, where multiple people reported being shot at.

The victims included Mr. Burn’s ex-girlfriend and their child. A third victim drove himself to the hospital with a gunshot wound to the arm.

Police learned Mr. Burns was driving to an apartment to pick up his 10-month-old child. The mother saw Mr. Burns with a firearm as she was putting their child in the car.

She alerted the two other victims of Mr. Burns having a gun. They all exited the apartment and approached Mr. Burns. After he said a few words, Mr. Burns allegedly reached around a female victim who was holding the baby and shot towards the male victim, damaging multiple vehicles and apartment buildings in the process.

Mr. Burn’s ex-girlfriend started yelling at him, to which he allegedly pointed his firearm at her. She jumped over a wall to get out of harm's way as shots started heading towards her.

Around 3:30 p.m., employees at a store reported a vehicle in the parking lot matching the description of Mr. Burns’ vehicle. He was located inside the bathroom of another business and subsequently arrested.

He denied shooting anyone but told officers they might find a handgun near the crime scene. He said his mother would confirm he was at the business for hours.

However, she later told police her son called and told her he had done something stupid.

Mr. Burns was booked into jail in lieu of a $150,000 cash-only bond.

His next court appearances are May 15 and 17.
