High temperatures are starting to hit 100 degrees, which makes it a perfect time for the two Surprise city pools to allow recreational swimming.
The Surprise Aquatic Center, 15831 N. Bullard Ave., and Hollyhock Pool, 15808 N. Hollyhock St., are opening to the public on Saturday, May 27.
The city is hosting Surprise Safety Splash on Friday, May 26, to start the 2023 summer swim season.
To get in to either pool, resident fees are $2 for youth and $3 for adult. The nonresident fee is $5 per person.
For those who plan to use the pool all summer, passes are available. Those run $30 for youth, $50 for adult and $100 for a family of five.
Children 10 years and younger must be accompanied by a guardian 16 years or older.
From May 27 to Aug. 2, the Surprise Aquatic Center will be open noon daily. It closes at 6 p.m. each day, except Friday at 4 p.m. The pool will also be open from noon to 6 p.m. on Memorial Day.
From Aug. 5 through Sept. 24, the pool will only be open on weekends from noon to 6 p.m.
The Hollyhock Pool is on a similar schedule, but with less hours each day.
Between May 27 and Aug. 2, the pool will be open at noon daily, closing at 3 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays and 4 p.m. Fridays through Sundays.
Another upcoming event is scheduled to kick off the swim season.
The Surprise Safety Splash is a free event from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 26, at the Surprise Aquatic Center.
It will feature emergency vehicles and equipment, an appearance by a Banner helicopter, car seat safety checks, interactive exhibits, live demonstrations of Surprise’s public safety services, CPR and drowning prevention strategies, swim lesson assessments and more.
Food will be included as the Surprise Firefighter Charities will provide hamburgers and hot dogs.
The event will also feature giveaways, including life jackets, sponsored by WM.
Attendees can also enter raffles for prizes such as beach bags and towels, pool passes, beach balls and more.
