Surprise police arrest driver in hit-and-run collision

A man was arrested following a hit-and-run collision in Surprise.

The incident happened Tuesday morning near Goldwater Ridge and Pantano drives, southwest of Grand Avenue and Reems Road.

Surprise police said they responded to a collision involving a vehicle and golf cart. Two elderly women in the cart were taken to the hospital for treatment.

Witnesses stated the vehicle struck the golf cart from behind, causing the passenger in the cart to fall out onto the roadway. The cart skidded and then struck the curb, flipping over on top of the driver, records state. Witnesses ran over and uprighted the cart.

A witness was able to take a photo of the fleeing driver and vehicle, leading police to identify the driver.

Police located and arrested Ray Klucznik Randy, 30, around 12:01 a.m. Wednesday near 88th Avenue and Thunderbird Road in Peoria. However, he denied striking the golf cart, saying he was driving for Doordash when he saw the golf cart down the road and saw one of the women on the ground. Police said he couldn't detail what happened between Doordashing and getting his photo taken.

Mr. Randy was jailed in lieu of $2,500 bond on charges of failure to stay, failure to give information, and leaving the scene of an accident.

Records state the passenger in the cart sustained a broken arm, an injured elbow, and abrasions. The injuries do not appear life-threatening.
