The Scottsdale Police Department has received two state grants to crack down on reckless driving and pay for pedestrian and bicycle safety education and enforcement.
The money, which totals $120,000, comes from the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety and is for the 2023 fiscal year, the department announced this week in a release.
The Speed Awareness Grant of $70,000 will allow police “to focus on education and enforcement efforts on the dangers of excessive speed and reckless driving,” officials said.
The Pedestrian and Bicycle Safety Grant provides $50,000 to fund education and enforcement efforts throughout the city, including the entertainment district.
“Serious and fatal traffic collisions have consistently remained an area of concern for our department, and these grants will assist in addressing these concerns,” police officials said in the release.
